Compared with the Colnago V4Rs, the Y1Rs reduces frontal area by 19%. The radical frame shapes, curved downtube, bayonet-style fork and integrated front end have all been designed around controlling airflow as efficiently as possible.
Wind-tunnel testing by Colnago showed that the Y1Rs requires approximately 20 watts less than the V4Rs to maintain 50 km/h in tested real-world configurations.

Creating an aero bike is always a balancing act between aerodynamic performance, stiffness and weight.
According to Colnago's Y1Rs technical data, the ready-to-paint Y1Rs frame weighs approximately 972 g, before paint and removable parts. The dedicated aerodynamic fork weighs approximately 450 g, giving a combined frame-and-fork weight of approximately 1,422 g before paint and removable components.
